The research group of UC3M participating in COMONSENS is The Signal Processing Group (SPG). This group started its activity in 2000 under the direction of Prof. Antonio Artés. Its main research areas include machine learning, statistical inference techniques (detection, classification, regression and estimation), Monte Carlo methods and information theory, with applications in the fields of public health, security, defence, and digital communications.

The experience of the group in these areas is proved by 65 journal papers (including the 2007 Best Paper Award of the IEEE Signal Processing Magazine) and over 100 conference papers published by its members over the last 6 years, as well as 6 Doctoral Thesis finished and 4 patents (1 awarded and 3 under revision) requested during this period. The group has also been involved in the edition of the Proceedings of Learning 2002 and 2004, of a special issue of IEEE Trans. on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics - Part C (Vol. 34, No. 4), as well as the writing of 6 book chapters on several topics, and a full book devoted to digital communications. Besides, the group has participated in 15 R+D projects with public funds: 4 EU project within the VI Framework Program, 14 projects of the Spanish National Plan, and 5 projects funded by regional Spanish administrations. Finally, the group has also promoted the technological transfer with the industry, participating in 13 contracts with different companies.
